GENERAL
INFO
Menagerie currently has just 3
pages - each page with illustration and text-. This
is sufficient to solve the riddle. More of the story may be
revealed in the future by a new page being added. This will be
released, to those who have donated, some time before it
appears on the site.
Menagerie is not affiliated in
any way with Kit Williams. He does not talk about Masquerade
and has no interest in this hunt.
Menagerie is FREE, I am not
selling you anything, but Donations are extremely gratefully
received and may be rewarded in the future. (see above)
The Jewel and the hunt have cost
me a considerable amount of money, which I am likely
to never get returned, which is fine..I'm doing this for the
fun of it all..
However, Treasure hunts have a
history of ending in disaster, so steps have been taken
to avoid accidental discovery or cheating. Nothing on this site will give clues to the
actual burial site of the hare - only to a treasure map.
THE
TEASER PUZZLE
This
was released in 2004, to promote Menagerie and
get puzzlers interested in this main hunt. It is now
solved (if you're interested, the solution can be found at Q4T
in the links section) . Don't worry if you didn't take
part. It is not required to solve
Menagerie.
THE
MAP
The idea behind the map is
partly to provide an extra element
of intrigue and enjoyment for the winner, but it is
also a test. To prove you you have correctly solved
Menagerie.. With knowledge of the solution, the winner should
be able to quickly deduce the site of the Hare. Without this
knowledge, however, it will make no sense at all. Neither
will it give clues to the nature of the actual
solution.
With knowledge of past hunts in
mind, I have designed this puzzle, so that to find the map,
you MUST have solved Menagerie correctly rather
than through hunches, feelings or
guesses.
However, I'm sure that was
the idea behind Masquerade, and the
prize still managed to get found without the full
solution. Therefore finding the map itself is NOT a claim
to the prize. In fact.. accidental, fluke, or
sculduggerous discovery of the map will put the hunt in
jeopardy.*
The site of the map may be
visited twice a year or so, and checked for signs of
tampering. The contents cannot be viewed without breaking an
irreplaceable seal.
CONTACTING ME
If you think you have solved the
riddle, please contact me before you set off
with your spade. I will not give confirmation,
but I will know if you are on the right track, and if any
unforeseen problems arose it would be helpful if I
was kept informed.
In fact, I would be grateful to
receive updates from any hunters who think they are getting on
well. (However, obviously I will not talk specifics about
the hunt or offer advice. Please don't be offended if I don't
reply.)

Hats off to Kit
Williams.. whose genius invented this strange
pastime..
I hope that the unravelling
of the riddle provides you with fun and
frustration.
*the hunt will also be in
jeopardy if it ceases to be fun anymore through bad behaviour
etc..I will not cancel it unless something awful happens, but
I cannot promise to put up with absolutely anything. After
all, fun is the main reason for me doing this.
ps.. This is my first attempt at
website design.. Sorry if its confusing at all (or too
graphically intensive.) I am still in the process of making
it, and will update it soon with more pictures of the Hare
Casket etc... |
